Seb Derm Forum Shutdown

Had to shut down the SD forum I had created. No participation at this time and a constant barrage of spammers.
When traffic builds up, perhaps I’ll give it another go?
For now, if you’ve got something you’d like to share, please let me know and you can be a “guest blogger”! I know that everyone else would love to hear your story!

I have had seborrhea dermatitis since the early 90s and have never found an adequate treatment until just about 4 months ago. It is a combination of the following.
swab entire scalp each night or morning with alcohol. Usually the opposite part of the day from your shower.
Put 3 shampoos in your daily wash routine and rotate each day…make sure to wash rinse, wash rinse.
I personally use 2 regular shampoos, head and shoulders, and a neutrogena tar shampoo if I have a active flaky sore.
This is the part that was an experiment and it miraculously worked.
Apply Abreva cold sore cream generously to effected areas after shampoo and hair is dry. Repeat until effected area is gone… yes GONE! Abreva is a anti viral cream. I personally believe the condition is a combination between bacteria and virus working together. The alcohol gets the bacteria that causes the initial sore, while the Abreva attacks the virus that develops in the sore causing the flaky annoying skin condition. I’ve been doing this for months and I’m glad to say that I’m 99.5% free of this disease. Meaning since I’ve been doing this I’ve only had one small break out which I was able to make vanish in about 10 days. Hopefully it will work for others. Thought I’d share this as I was elated about finally finding something that worked.

I’m really happy to hear that you’ve found something that works for you! And it sounds like it’s not just a temporary fix as you’ve had success for a few months. Thats great to hear! I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of Abreva? Just goes to show you that people shouldn’t give up on finding something that works for them. If at first you don’t succeed…keep on trying!
Thanks again for your input and suggestions!

I’ve had this for over 5 years, since then I suffer from
extreme night sweats around every 2-3 days. Originally I
assumed that the sweating was the real cause of the rashes and
dandruff.
After my GP had ruled out medical causes for the sweating
such as diabetes or T.B., I began to suspect that the sweating
was being triggered by the S.D. or some bacteria/fungus/virus it’s
working in partnership with.
If i change the bed-clothing everyday it does reduce the frequency
of the night-sweats.I just can’t afford to buy a new matress everyday
and have found covering matress with plastic just makes the sweat puddle
under me.
Next plan is a hammock i can chuck into the washing machine everyday
along with the sheets – also going to try out some of the solutions that
have worked for others here like coldsore cream etc.
Gave up after the last home-made treatments from tea-tree oil and garlic
did nothing but add an odour problem to the visual one.
Thanks alot for the site, it’s given me hope. My G.P. refuses to take this
problem seriously, but it’s totally destroyed my self-confidence, I haven’t
been able to date anyone, as it looks like someones emptied a kettle of boiling
water over my private parts – just the thought of trying to explain that it’s
“not contagious” sends a shiver down my spine.

Sounds like you’ve got a double-dose of problems between the SD and the night sweats! Do the sweats “only” happen at night? I don’t know if you’re open to this, but have you considered hypnosis for the sweating? I have some background in hypnosis and I’m not sure if it can help or not, but might be worth a call to a local hypnotherapist to see what they think. This is assuming that your doctor can find no “physical” reason for the sweats?
Something else you might want to look into for the SD. I’m actually ordering some of this now and it’s currently in shipment. It is a psoriasis treatment from http://www.champori.com. I did quite a bit of research on the web and not finding a much bad…and lots of good reviews/testimonials. I’m going to let visitors here know how it works for me, but thought you might want to consider it.
Hang in there! I know it’s rough on the self confidence, but you can I’m sure you will find something that will help.
Regards,
Chris
I just want to thank you for this site, I had started to give up on finding a cure, have tried many “regimes” including washing myself, clothing and bedlinnen in pure vodka(very expensive), deliberate sunburning of affected areas (very dangerous, painful and does not work), homemade garlic ointments (not appreciated by work colleagues) and a host of atheletes-foot,dandruff,and wart medication.
Your suggestion about Hypnosis for the night sweats is something I’m going to look into, I don’t particularly suffer from nightmares at all, but may have some anxiety when i’m sleeping that I don’t know about.
