Hi all…sorry for not putting more information out.  Busy lately…no other excuse!

So I’m set up to receive updates when anything is posted on the web regarding seborrheic dermatitis.  What I thought I’d do is filter that information…weed out the junk that is worthless and pass along the stories and articles that are useful.  I might get something once or twice a day or once or twice a week?  But when I do, I’ll post out here and try and include my thoughts on the article as well.

So…first up…an article about the effects of “crude honey” on seborrheic dermatitis.  I found this story very interesting!  I’ve always heard about the benefits of eating honey, and I seem to recall honey being mentioned as a potential treatment for seb derm.  Sometimes we tend to look at these stories and think….”uh yeah…ok…”   But the folks that wrote this story do seem to know what they’re talking about.  Hey…I’m going to give honey a try!  If you’ve every tried honey for seborrheic dermatitis, please let us know the results you experienced.

Abstract

Honey has antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidants activities and has high nutrient value. In this study we investigated the potential use of topical application of crude honey in the management of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. Thirty patients with chronic seborrheic dermatitis of scalp, face and front of chest were entered for study. Twenty patients were males and 10 were females, their ages ranged between 15 and 60 years. The patients had scaling, itching and hair loss. The lesions were scaling macules, papules and dry white plaques with crust and fissures. The patients were asked to apply diluted crude honey (90% honey diluted in warm water) every other day on the lesions with gentle rubbing for 2-3 mins.  ….read more

Nice find mate. I will try using honey in my tea for a few weeks and let you know how it goes. At the moment its winter in Australia and my SD is flaring up again so fingers crossed ;-)

  2. Honey is amazing for most skin complaints including that awful itchy excema, far better for you than steroid creams.
